چکیده

Industry is currently pushing towards Service Oriented Architecture where code execution is not limited to the organisational borders but may extend outside of the organisation to which the sources are typically not accessible. In order to protect the interests of the organisation contracts are used which can be seen as a list of obligations, permissions and prohibitions. The composition of different services with different contracts, and the combination of service contracts with local contracts can give rise to conflicts, exposing the need for automatic techniques for contract analysis. In this paper we investigate how conflict analysis can be performed automatically for contracts specified in the contract language CL.

Detection of Conflicts in Electronic Contracts∗

Today’s trend towards service-oriented architectures, in which different decoupled services distributed not only on different machines within a single organisation but also outside of it, provides new challenges for reliability and trust. Since an organisation may need to execute code provided by third parties, it requires mechanisms to protect itself. One of such mechanisms is the use of contr...

Identifying Potential Conflicts between Norms in Contracts

Contracts formally represent agreements between parties and often involve the exchange of goods or services. In contracts, clauses define the behavior expected from parties in terms of deontic statements such as obligation, permission and prohibition. These normative clauses may contain conflicting deontic statements referring to the same party in the same context, producing inconsistencies in ...

Contracts for Interacting Two-Party Systems

This article deals with the interrelation of deontic operators in contracts – an aspect often neglected when considering only one of the involved parties. On top of an automata-based semantics we formalise the onuses that obligations, permissions and prohibitions on one party impose on the other. Such formalisation allows for a clean notion of contract strictness and a derived notion of contrac...

: An Action-Based Logic for Reasoning about Contracts

This paper presents a new version of the CL contract specification language. CL combines deontic logic with propositional dynamic logic but it applies the modalities exclusively over structured actions. CL features synchronous actions, conflict relation, and an action negation operation. The CL version that we present here is more expressive and has a cleaner semantics than its predecessor. We ...

CLAN: A Tool for Contract Analysis and Conflict Discovery

As Service-Oriented Architectures are more widely adopted, it becomes more important to adopt measures for ensuring that the services satisfy functional and non-functional requirements. One approach is the use of contracts based on deontic logics, expressing obligations, permissions and prohibitions of the different actors. A challenging aspect is that of service composition, in which the contr...
